Bangladesh’s Executive Committee of the National Economic Council approved a 442 MW grid-connected solar project at Rampal on 8 October. The Bangladesh Power Development Board is expected to invest BDT 25 billion, about US$200 million, and the site is scheduled for implementation from September 2026 to March 2029.
The planned plant will include eight hours of battery storage, twice the duration previously envisaged, and will use land reserved for a second coal unit. The project is intended to supply more renewable electricity while helping address power shortages; the storage duration is a material part of that operating brief.
For suppliers and EPC bidders, the procurement signal is a combined PV, long-duration storage and grid-integration package. Qualification should cover firm delivery windows, usable MWh at the point of interconnection, degradation guarantees, dispatch rules, auxiliary consumption, fire protection, transmission scope and payment security—not just the headline MW figure.
