Engie has started construction of its first co-located solar-and-battery project in France, combining 29.8 MW of solar capacity with a 20 MWh battery system. pv magazine Global reported the construction start on 22 October 2026. The battery is intended to shift electricity delivery toward periods of higher grid demand.
Project data
The project pairs generation and storage at one site rather than treating the battery as a separate grid asset. The published figures identify the solar and battery capacities, while the source does not state a COTECH relationship or name a battery supplier. The project therefore illustrates a procurement model, not a product endorsement.
Procurement impact
Co-location increases the need to coordinate PV balance-of-system design, battery power-conversion equipment, energy-management controls, metering and grid-connection studies. EPC teams should model export limits, charging sources, dispatch rules and warranty boundaries together. Suppliers may also need to provide commissioning and operational data that demonstrate the combined plant can respond during targeted demand periods.
