TagEnergy has inaugurated a 240 MW/480 MWh battery energy storage system at Cernay-lès-Reims in northeastern France. The 140-container project is connected to RTE’s 225 kV grid and is now France’s largest operational BESS.
The facility completed the tests and certifications needed for frequency containment reserve, automatic frequency restoration reserve and voltage regulation. TagEnergy reported 70.5 GWh delivered to the grid during the first four months and 145 full cycles over 125 days. For procurement teams, the project highlights the need to qualify grid-service controls, transmission connection studies, bankable financing and long-term operations; COTECH has no stated relationship with the project.
