Vattenfall has taken the final investment decision for a standalone battery at the former Brunsbüttel nuclear power plant site in Germany. The project is specified at 254 MW and up to 1,000 MWh, connecting to the 50Hertz 380 kV transmission system and targeting commissioning by the end of 2028.
For utilities, EPCs and storage suppliers, the decision is a clear demand signal for grid-scale battery containers, medium- and high-voltage equipment, protection, controls, commissioning and long-term optimisation services. The source says the project is owned and developed by Vattenfall; COTECH is not a supplier or partner.
