Malaysia Opens 2.65 GW Solar Auction With 1.25 GW of Battery Storage

Malaysia's LSS6 program combines 2.65 GW of new solar capacity with 1.25 GW of battery storage, creating a major pipeline for integrated PV and BESS procurement.

Malaysia Opens 2.65 GW Solar Auction With 1.25 GW of Battery Storage

Malaysia has opened the sixth round of its Large Scale Solar program, allocating 2.65 GW of solar capacity together with 1.25 GW of battery energy storage. The program is expected to enter commercial operation progressively through the end of 2029.

How the capacity is structured

  • The main competitive package covers 2.2 GW of solar and 1.1 GW of BESS.
  • A further 300 MW of solar and 150 MW of storage is reserved for Bumiputera developers.
  • A 150 MW package supports smaller local developers without a storage requirement.

For EPCs and equipment suppliers, the tender shows how large solar procurements are increasingly being designed as integrated generation-and-storage projects. Bidders will need coordinated module, inverter, battery, controls and grid-integration specifications, while local-content preferences may also influence supply-chain choices.
