Mongolia’s National Dispatching Centre signed power purchase agreements with the winners of the country’s first competitive renewable-energy auction. Five projects across five provinces total 220 MW of solar PV and 135 MW/440 MWh of battery storage: four 50 MW solar-plus-30 MW/100 MWh lots and one 20 MW solar-plus-15 MW/40 MWh lot.
The auction attracted 115 domestic and international companies, with winning tariffs ranging from $0.0485/kWh to $0.078/kWh. The government expects the projects to operate before peak winter demand, while a second Gobi-region auction requires a stabilisation solution and allows international developers to bid through majority-Mongolian consortia. Suppliers should assess local partnership, bid-bond, winter commissioning and storage integration requirements; COTECH has no stated relationship with the auction.
