Portugal is preparing two competitive procedures that would allocate 1,050 MVA of grid injection capacity to storage: 750 MVA for standalone batteries and 300 MVA for renewable projects with co-located storage. The launch, initially planned for September 14, was postponed by several weeks after public consultation.
Standalone projects must match awarded injection capacity and provide at least four hours of storage; the 750 MVA tranche could therefore represent at least 3 GWh. The renewable-plus-storage tranche requires storage equal to at least 20% of awarded injection capacity. Final terms and opening dates are still pending, so this is a pipeline and grid-access signal rather than an awarded order. COTECH has no stated project relationship.
