The Korea Power Exchange (KPX) launched its 2026 ESS central-contract market for 1.18 GW of six-hour storage: 1.1 GW on mainland Korea and 80 MW on Jeju. The systems are targeted for delivery by February 2029, implying up to 6.6 GWh of energy capacity if the full duration is built.
Price represents 50% of the evaluation, while the remaining criteria cover fire safety, grid-forming capability, supply-chain resilience, Korean economic contribution, service capability and battery recycling. Bidder registration runs from September 28 to October 2, with proposals due from October 6 to November 4. This is a live procurement signal for suppliers able to document bankable six-hour systems, safety testing and long-term service; COTECH has no stated relationship with the tender.
