Recurrent Energy has announced the start of commercial operations at the 200 MWp Villameca solar project in Castilla y León, Spain. The Canadian Solar owner-operator subsidiary says it expects to have 1 GW of operational solar capacity in Spain by the end of 2026, alongside its Rey Solar and Tordesillas projects.
Project and delivery signal
PV Tech reports that Villameca received UNEF’s Seal of Excellence during permitting and construction, with community, education, habitat-restoration and native-vegetation measures included in the development. Recurrent Energy also expects to hybridise the project with battery storage, although no battery size was stated in the announcement.
Procurement impact
For EPCs and equipment buyers, the project is a reminder that a solar asset can move into operation before a future storage retrofit is fully specified. Grid studies, spare capacity, controls integration, civil interfaces and warranty boundaries should be clarified early when BESS is expected later. Sustainability commitments and local logistics are also practical delivery inputs.
